Ferhat Mehenni: “Independence is a political issue and does not depend on war”
We are a civilized and intelligent people. That’s why we are going to put together our body of Anaya. The Anaya will supplant the Algerian colonial authority by a Kabyle patriotic authority. Our decision is made.
The independence of Kabylia is a political issue and is not part of the realm of war
In response to our London Appeal (03/06/2018) by which, as President of the Kabyle Provisional Government in Exile (Anavad), I invited the Kabyle people to the formation of their own security forces, the Algerian army, in the editorial of the July issue of its official organ, the magazine El Djeich, states that Algeria will remain “one and indivisible”. It must be remembered that France said the same thing already in 1955 when the first outbreaks of insurrection appeared in Kabylia and the Aurès.
Kabylia is astonished that it is a military body that expresses itself on a question that does not concern it. The independence of Kabylia is a political issue and does not fall within the realm of war.
The ANP (National People’s Army) is instrumentalized by its hierarchy which holds the reality of Algerian power. By over-deploying itself in Kabylia where since 1997, fifteen (15) years before the first Kabyle independence claim, with military roadblocks every 5 kilometers, it reveals a Kabyle country militarily occupied and politically colonized.
There are more police and military checkpoints per square kilometer in Kabylia than there are in Palestine.
On 28/09/2017, Kabylia deposited a Memorandum to the UN in which it claims its legitimate right to organize a referendum of self-determination, in accordance with the texts and charters of the United Nations.
The military presence in Kabylia does not scare the Kabyles who do not opt for a military rebellion but for a solid and massive political expression in favor of their independence. The war has changed in nature, it is no longer military; it is political.
The street, social networks, the media, diplomacy and international law have replaced the maquis that our elders had taken to overcome the French colonization. The time is no longer that of the Algerian war and we will not offer our youth as cannon fodder to those bloodthirsty and all those who pour every day their stream of hate against the Kabyles.
We are a civilized and intelligent people. That’s why we are going to put together our body of Anaya. The Anaya will supplant the Algerian colonial authority by a patriotic Kabyle authority. Our decision is made.
Gentlemen of the ANP,
Whatever time it takes, our victory is certain and Kabylia will be independent and that, for the benefit of your own children. The question is no longer the responsibility of your Kalashnikovs or your Uzis but of the sovereign will of the Kabyle people.
One more thing: The ANP is not the heir to the ALN (Armée de libération nationale 1954-1962). It is its murderer. The war of Kabylia (1963-1965) bears witness to this.
Exile, the 13/07/2018
